Game Summary:   Mohawk Valley and Holy Cross took their identical 5-1 league records into Friday’s 1st meeting of the two teams this season, after the initial game was postponed due to snow.  Mike Gorman’s strong all around game and a scrappy man-to-man defense helped the Eagles come out ahead 60-52.  Mohawk Valley took the early lead 12-6 but the Crusaders fought back to tie the game at 14-14 in the second.  Behind Matt Collins 11 second quarter points, Holy Cross took their first lead of the tame 21-20 with 2:36 remaining in the first half.  The Eagles were able to regain a three point margin by the intermission.  The lead extended to 10 early in the 4th period, but the Crusaders had another run sparked by another player.  Senior forward Martin Koegst got hot, scoring 11 of his 15 points in the 4th period and brought his team back to within one point 49-48.  Three key buckets by Gorman, Josh Purpura and Bill Arthur kept the Eagles ahead and with 1:12 to play held a 56-50 advantage.  The Crusaders managed only a pair of free throws after that and forced to foul, the Eagles converted on 4 of 7 free throws down the stretch to close out the game.  Mike Gorman finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 2 asists and 2 blocked shots.  Bill Arthur added 12 points and Josh Purpura and Bruce Pavlus each chipped in 10.  Matt Collins led Holy Cross with 19 points while Martin Koegst added 15.  The two teams will meet again on Tuesday, Jan 29th in Oneida.
