Game Summary:   David Haas got the Eagles off to a quick start Tuesday night in their rematch game against Holy Cross Academy in Oneida.  Haas had 19 first half points (13 in the first quarter) and was 5-5 from behind the arc (3 - 1st qtr, 2 - 2nd qtr) in the first half.  Mohawk Valley jumped out to the 20-14 lead but Holy Cross come roaring back with a 6-0 run, leg by Martin Koegst,  to end the second quarter and trailed by only 1 at the intermission.  With Holy Cross switching to a box and 1 defense in the third quarter, all 5 MVCA starters scored in that period as their lead built back to 8. Bill Arthur had 12 of his 14 points in the second half to seal the win for the Eagles while he, Mike Gorman and Bruce Pavlus controlled the boards.  David Haas ended up with 25 points while both Bill Arthur (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Mike Gorman (10 points, 11 rebounds) recorded double-doubles.  Nick Williams led the Crusaders with 18 points while Matt Collins added 15 and Martin Koegst 12.  The Eagles travel to Watertown on Thursday to play Faith Fellowship in a league game.

Game Notes:  Holy Cross Academy scored 8 points in the second period to tie Mohawk Valley at the intermission in the second meeting of the two teams in a week.  The Eagles then held the Crusaders to two points in the third period to take a 20-14 lead into the final period.  A full court press helped Holy Cross climb back into the game and free throws by Brianna Miller and Joy Droz pulled the home team to within four points, 24-20, with 56 seconds left to play.  Lissa Keiper then found a streaking Rachel Hall upcourt who made the lay up and was fouled on the play.  The free throw put the Eagles up by 5 and added a bonus basket with time winding down to win the game 29-20.  Lissa Keiper was the high scorer for Mohawk Valley with 10 points while Joy Droz led the Crusaders with 9.

NYS School for the Deaf 73,  Lowville 67

 

NYSSD Trojans defeated the visiting Lowville Hawks by a final score of 73- 67. After Lowville jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter the Trojans came back to tie the score at the end of the quarter. Lowville led at the half 34-31. Entering into the final quarter down by 7 the Trojans outscored Lowville by 14 to complete their comback.
 
The Trojans were led by game-high scorer Ty Miller with 30 points. Irick Carter added 16 points, Elijah Olivio netted 10 points while Isaiah Olivio put in9 points for the NYSSD.
 
Lowville was led by Patrick Harney's 25 points and 16 rebounds. Brock Roggie contributed with 18 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Dean Oakes added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks.

New Life Christian School 73, Lowville Homeschool Hawks 54

 

New Life jumped out to 42-25 half-time lead on their way to a 73-54 victory over the visiting Lowville Hawks. Paul Brown played a strong inside game and led all scorers with 27 points. Philip Dickerson and Jeremiah Brown had 18 and 14 points respectively for New Life. Lowville was led by Patrick Harney with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Corwin Christman added 12 points and 8 rebounds while Brock Roggie contributed with 7 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. Calder Roggie also added 4 steals for the defense.

Game Notes:  The MVCA Eagles led from start to finish in their league game vs. Faith Fellowship Christian School on Thursday night in a game played in Castorland.  Ahead by 3 points after the first quarter the Eagles extended that lead to double digits by halftime.  Lissa Keiper led all scorers with 11 points while Marissa Shepherd added 10 and Jena Allen added 8.  Kim Myers led the Flames with 5 points.

Game Summary:  Faith Fellowship’s Center, Michael Tweedy, got the upset minded Flames off to a good start Thursday night, sparking a 6-0 run in the early minutes of the game and an 8-2 lead 5 minutes into the game.  The Flames held that lead 13-11 after the first quarter.  A full court press helped the Eagles get back into the game and outscore their opponents 18-4 in the second period to take a 29-17 halftime lead.  Mohawk Valley added to that lead in the third period then hung on to win the game 55-46 on the road.  Bruce Pavlus led a balanced scoring attack for the Eagles with 13 points, while David Purpura and Nolan Little added 8 apiece.   The Flames frontcourt of Tweedy, Ephraim Burt, and William Kenney each scored in double digits for the host team.
